Why do we use different catheter sizes on different sized veins? A recent study conducted by OSTICK founders examined causes of catheter-related thrombosis in patients with PIVC placement. It turns out that a catheter diameter to vein diameter ratio greater than one-third was associated with increased risk of thrombophlebitis.
